Big League Baseball Academy has teams that range from grade school age
children to college age players. You can see some of our Houston Sox teams by
clicking the respective age in the Team tab above or to the left. Some
teams post player photos in the
photo gallery. :
Youth teams will have a pro coach that organizes and runs practices.
Beginning age depends on the development of the child, but runs until 13 or 14
years of age. At the age of 13 or 14, players move up to showcase teams.
Showcase players are usually playing organized baseball for their respective
school from January to approximately April or even as late as June if their team
advances to State playoffs. Showcase players range in age from 13 to college
age. Showcase teams are organized in April and work toward competing
in summer showcase tournaments. The objective of the showcase tournaments
is to allow players to "showcase" their talents to college and professional
scouts. Showcase teams usually have at least two professional coaches.
Some showcase teams continue to practice on weekends concurrently with high
school baseball. If at any time if you have an interest or question concerning
showcase teams, please contact BLBA at (281)357-4330.
Tryouts for Youth teams occur in August and January. Tryouts for
Showcase teams take place during April. However coaches may consider
adding players any time they feel it is necessary. No matter what time of
year it is, if you would like to arrange a tryout for a team please contact
BLBA at (281)357-4330.
